Annual Awards
At the end of each year, the MAKO Fly Fishers acknowledge two club members with two special recognition awards. Awards are voted on by the membership at the December meeting and presented to the recipients at the Annual Awards Banquet & Fundraiser in February. The two awards carry the names of two individuals who made a significant impact on the club and were instrumental in creating and maintaining the club. The awards are The John Townsley - Fly Fisher of the Year and The Joe Butler - Outstanding Club Member. The MAKO Fly Fishers were formed in 1988 and the first year for the awards was 1989. Originally the awards were simply Fly Fisher of the Year and Outstanding Club Member. The memorial name was voted on and assigned to the award after the individuals passed away in later years.
